Four-way bidding war for West Ham’s 30-cap international is brilliant news for Graham Potter

West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has so much work to do in the summer transfer window.

Graham Potter knows full well that his current West Ham squad simply isn’t strong enough.

There are too many ‘hangers on’ at the London Stadium, so to speak, and Potter needs a big clear-out.

He is said to be planning a huge squad overhaul at West Ham, and we need that desperately.

However, with funds tight at the London Stadium right now, the Hammers head coach will have to be thrifty in his player recruitment.

There will be plenty of players leaving the club in order to help fund Potter’s summer spending spree.

One imminent exit may well go under the radar, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be an extremely profitable deal for the Hammers.

Bidding war for West Ham’s Guido Rodriguez is great for Graham Potter

According to La Razon, three clubs want to sign Guido Rodriguez from the Hammers this summer.

La Liga trio Girona, Real Sociedad and Villarreal are desperate to prise the 30-year-old midfielder away from the London Stadium.

It has been suggested recently that his former club Real Betis are desperate to bring him back to Spain as well.

This is brilliant news for West Ham, because we should be able to obtain a decent fee for the 30-capped Argentina international.

Don’t get me wrong, I would have been happy to let him go for nothing – such is his unsuitability to Premier League football.

West Ham signed Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer last summer, and he earns around £75k-a-week (Spotrac).

That works out at £3.9 million per year. So if the Hammers manage to get a fee anywhere north of that figure, we will actually make a profit on the the failed Rodriguez experiment.

What a result that would be for West Ham.

The fact that four different clubs want to sign the 30-year-old should be hugely beneficial to Potter’s hopes of overseeing a successful summer window.

What was the U-turn Graham Potter made on Guido?

So only last month, big news emerged of a U-turn from the Hammers boss.

It was claimed that Potter actually wanted to keep Rodriguez at the London Stadium, after his initial impressions of the South American in training.

However, the proof is in the pudding.

Since Potter’s arrival, West Ham have played eight games. During those matches, Guido Rodriguez has made just two starts for a total of 127 minutes action.

I’m convinced that the former Real Betis midfielder will be moved on in the summer, despite what some reports recently suggested about a U-turn from Potter.

He is a painfully bad fit for the English top flight, and a return to Spain would be in the best interest of all parties concerned.
