West Ham United are waiting for answers from the Government before planning the traditional home prestige pre-season friendly.

The Hammers have played some quality sides from across Europe at Upton Park and the London Stadium down the years in their last warm-up game before the season begins.

The likes of Roma, Napoli, Werder Bremen, Juventus and Athletic Bilbao have brought the curtain down on West Ham’s pre-season preparations in the past.

West Ham have played some top clubs at home in traditional slot a week before season starts, such as Juve

West Ham already have a stellar friendly lined up against Scottish giants Celtic at Parkhead next month – as first revealed by Hammers News.

The Hammers will also play Dundee in Scotland.

But as yet no friendly has been announced for the weekend of August 7th – the week before West Ham kick off the new Premier League campaign away at Newcastle.

That slot is traditionally reserved for a home friendly against strong opposition.

Insider says Hammers are waiting to see Covid situation before inviting big European club to London Stadium

But ExWHUemployee says West Ham are waiting to see what happens regarding the Government’s Covid restrictions before making any plans or announcements.

“It’s a good question and I don’t really know the answer if I’m honest with you,” Ex said on The West Ham Way podcast when asked whether the Hammers will play a home pre-season game this summer.

“I think they’re waiting to see Covid restrictions so that they can see whether they can bring over a big European team without having all the blockage that (restrictions) would (cause).

Home game against top European side would be good preparation for Europa League

“So I think that’s what the plan is, to wait, but I don’t think it’s been confirmed yet.”

The game against Celtic and a home friendly against a big European club will also give West Ham good practice ahead of the Europa League this season.

West Ham finished sixth and qualified for the Europa League group stages for the first time.
