West Ham have revealed when Crysencio Summerville is expected to return to the team after learning the full extent of his injury following a scan.

Hearts were in mouths when a distraught-looking Crysencio Summerville pulled his shirt over his face as he lay stricken on the turf in West Ham’s FA Cup win over Brentford.

After receiving treatment for an extended period, Summerville hobbled gingerly to the sideline and worry turned to relief when he returned to the pitch to play out the rest of the game.

West Ham’s flying Dutchman was not moving freely, though, and notably did not take a penalty in the shootout despite scoring seven goals in his previous 10 appearances.

A serious hamstring injury kept Summerville out for eight months last year and Hammers concerns immediately focused on whether he had suffered a recurrence of the issue.

Hammers News exclusively revealed yesterday that West Ham confirmed Summerville had suffered a new injury to his calf.

That was a major relief given the hamstring injury required an operation which saw Summerville sidelined between January and September last year.

But the seriousness of the calf injury was unknown while the Hammers awaited the results of a scan on the knock.

Now the expected Summerville return date has been revealed as West Ham get the word back from medics.

The good news is the calf injury is described as ‘on the minor end of the scale’ according to a senior West Ham source speaking to Hammers News.

The bad news is Summerville will almost certainly miss the upcoming games against Manchester City and Aston Villa and will not be ready to return until after the two-week international break.

Summerville to miss at least Man City and Aston Villa games

Barring any setbacks, West Ham expect Summerville to be back for the FA Cup quarter-final against his old club Leeds on the weekend of April 4-5.

However, given what is at stake with West Ham fighting for Premier League survival, the Hammers may give Summerville another week of recovery if needed so that he is ready for the huge game against Wolves on April 11th.

Can you name a WORSE signing than Maxwel Cornet? 🤔

He scored ONE Premier League goal for the Hammers 🤦‍♂️

West Ham missing their most in-form player for two games in the thick of the relegation battle is obviously terrible news.

It feels so typical of the club’s bad luck with injuries over the years.

But two games looks to be the best case scenario with three games the worst case.

That being said, things could clearly have been a lot worse and Summerville will hopefully be available for all of West Ham’s most winnable Premier League fixtures during the run-in.

West Ham say they are somewhat relieved by the results of the scan after initial concerns Summerville could face an extended spell out.

It is sad for Summerville on a personal level as it means he will not be able to accept his first ever call-up to the Holland senior side for friendlies against Norway and Ecuador.

Summerville is desperate to make the Dutch World Cup squad and manager Ronald Koeman had confirmed Summerville was set to be called up.

But the Hammers ace will now have to hope he can get back fit, continue to play a key role in West Ham’s survival bid and earn a play for the showpiece tournament at the end of the season.
