Enigmatic Frenchman now on David Sullivan’s wish-list to replace Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui surely cannot afford any more heavy defeats, if he is to avoid the wrath of West Ham United supremo David Sullivan.

Julen Lopetegui was given a pass by David Sullivan during a board meeting on Thursday – one more chance it seems for the West Ham head coach.

Keeping Lopetegui at the London Stadium was an appalling decision if you ask me, even if it is for just one more game, because we could now miss out on one of our key managerial targets.

Nothing less than a convincing win over Wolves will do if Lopetegui is to win the fans back over.

However, even if that happens, I’m sure that a vast majority of the Hammers supporters will want him gone.

He has failed miserably to implement any kind of discernible playing style at the London Stadium.

And the sooner he leaves the better as far as I’m concerned.

The likes of Graham Potter and Sergio Conceicao are being linked with replacing Lopetegui.

It now seems like yet another manager is on the Hammers chief’s radar…

The Spaniard’s days at the London Stadium are surely numbered now.

Even if he is in charge for the Wolves game, he must know himself that one or two more defeats will spell the end for him.

And Sullivan apparently has yet another potential replacement lined up for Lopetegui.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna has claimed that Christophe Galtier is now on the Hammers’ wish-list as a potential replacement for Lopetegui.

The 58-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain boss has won four trophies during his time in management, including two league titles.

Galtier is a shrewd tactician, and the greatest achievement of the enigmatic Frenchman’s career was when he won the Ligue 1 title with Lille.

He then went on to win the league with PSG as well.

The former Lille and PSG chief is currently out of work, so his availability on a free will undoubtedly appeal to Sullivan.

Christophe Gaultier is clearly a very good coach, but I would prefer it if David Sullivan replaced Julen Lopetegui with a younger, hungrier coach, one with more progressive ideas about the game.

Give me Graham Potter or Sebastian Hoeness all day long over the Frenchman.
