‘Embarrassing’: Sky Sports pundit couldn’t believe something he saw from West Ham vs Tottenham

Michael Dawson has labelled West Ham United’s first-half performance against Tottenham on Thursday night as embarrassing.

However, the Sky Sports pundit did congratulate David Moyes for turning things around after half-time, and eventually guiding West Ham to a 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The Hammers were absolutely shocking during the first 45 against Spurs, that cannot be denied. However, we really turned things around after the interval, and thoroughly deserved the three points in the end.

It made such a nice change to see us play with a high tempo, and actually take the game to Tottenham.

Hopefully Moyes will set his team up more like that now from the start. The proof is in the pudding – we are a proper side when we’re playing on the front foot.

The contrast from the first-half and second-half performances on Thursday night really was like night and day – something that Dawson has highlighted…

Michael Dawson discusses West Ham win over Tottenham

The Sky Sports pundit was asked to give his verdict on Tottenham’s defeat to the East London outfit in midweek.

And Dawson ripped the Hammers’ first-half performance against Spurs to shreds, when speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (December 9th, 12:25pm):

“First-half, they absolutely blew West Ham away. Credit to David Moyes, I was watching thinking if I was the manager, what the heck would you do? They didn’t touch the ball, it was embarrassing, but they were only 1-0 down and they stayed in the game.”

Dawson is right in all fairness – the first-half performance was embarrassing. It was gutless and devoid of any kind of energy, tempo, aggression or courage.

My word did things change in the second-half though. West Ham were absolutely brilliant against Tottenham, and I loved watching the way the players went about their business.

The challenge for them now will be to take that second-half performance on into our game against Fulham and beyond.

As mentioned earlier, I just hope that Moyes now realises that sitting deep and playing passive football is not the way forward for the Hammers.
