Hammers hermano Edson Alvarez has responded when quizzed on his West Ham future ahead of Mexico’s World Cup clash with England.
Some West Ham fans could be forgiven for forgetting Edson Alvarez is still their player.
The Mexico midfielder was shipped out on loan to Fenerbahce last season after falling out with David Moyes, Julen Lopetegui and then Graham Potter.
After a promising start to his Hammers career following a £34m move from Ajax, Alvarez struggled to adapt to the pace and power of English football.
Alvarez says he ‘must’ report back to West Ham
Alvarez also lacked the stamina and endurance to last 90 minutes and picked up far too many bookings as well as a few red cards.
Moyes called out Alvarez’s lack of fitness and discipline when he fell out of favour towards the end of the Scot’s tenure.
If Edson Alvarez RETURNED to West Ham this summer, how would you respond? 🇲🇽
And which player would be most worried by his comeback?
And Alvarez has barely been seen in a West Ham shirt since.
With the loan move to Fener proving to be a flop too, Alvarez remains a West Ham player.

It will be interesting to see if Nuno Espirito Santo wants to keep Alvarez but many expect he will be sold, especially in the wake of relegation.
What does the player himself want to do, though?
Well now Alvarez has responded on his West Ham future when quizzed ahead of Mexico’s World Cup clash with England.
Alvarez: “I’m still a West Ham player”
Alvarez is the last man standing at the World Cup when it comes to representing West Ham.
He admits while he is officially a Hammers player right now, he does not know what the future holds.

But Alvarez insists he will be professional and report back with West Ham for pre-season.
“I’m still a West Ham player,” Alvarez told the press ahead of the match against England.
“Now I’m focused on the national team, but I must report with them (West Ham, for pre-season training).”

Some Hammers fans believe Alvarez could be a revelation if he can be persuaded to stay in the Championship.
But Nuno would surely have pushed hard to have Alvarez’s disastrous loan with Fenerbahce cut short in January if he rated the player, given he was desperately trying to keep the club in the Premier League.
Where Alvarez would fit in if he did say is another question.
Supporters have very high hopes for Soungoutou Magassa, Tomas Soucek is staying and tough-tackling Freddie Potts is more mobile than Alvarez as well as being a West Ham boy.
The Hammers are also close to an exciting midfield signing as the first arrival of the summer and Nils Koppen’s tenure.
Alvarez looks likely to be sold to the highest bidder or loaned out again.
The same will be true for James Ward-Prowse, who has no future at West Ham under Nuno.
