Ear-cupping Ange Postecoglou replicates West Ham controversy and Tottenham fans will absolutely love it

Ange Postecoglou was caught ear-cupping his own fans during Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Chelsea on Thursday night, and the West Ham supporters will know all too well how this ends.

Tottenham suffered their 16th defeat of the Premier League season at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, and they’re stuck down in 14th spot in the table, level on points with West Ham.

Ange Postecoglou is a man under real pressure now.

The majority of Spurs fans want Postecoglou gone, with the Australian having overseen one of their worst ever campaigns.

Ange Postecoglou predicted back in October that the West Ham fans would be really excited by what Julen Lopetegui has to offer.

That clueless prediction had everyone at the London Stadium in genuine fits of laughter.

And there will be plenty of Hammers fans waking up with wry grins on their faces six months later.

With Chelsea leading the match 1-0, the game seemingly turned on its head in the 69th minute when Pape Matar Sarr fired the ball into the Blues’ net.

The 22-year-old had replaced Lucas Bergvall five minutes earlier, much to the dismay of the travelling Spurs fans.

Postecoglou was greeted with chants of, ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ from the away end, so when Sarr found the back of the net, he performed the now famous ear-cupping gesture towards them.

However, the Australian’s mood changed quickly when the decision to allow the goal was quickly questioned by VAR, and six minutes later it was chalked off all together.

The Spurs fans were fuming and rightly so. Once a manger loses the away support, it’s usually curtains for them.

And the Hammers fans will know all about that.

Sam Allardyce lost West Ham job not long after ear-cupping incident

Back in March 2014, Sam Allardyce was fuming with the Upton Park crowd, after his side beat Hull City 2-1.

Allardyce cupped his ear to the fans when he left the pitch, an action that unsurprisingly caused uproar inside the ground.

He was never a popular figure at the club, and was a dead man walking from that moment onwards.

West Ham parted ways with Sam Allardyce just over 13 months later, so those who want Ange Postecoglou gone at Tottenham should take great heart from that fact.

The only problem in their eyes will be that if it takes the Spurs board 13 months to get rid of the 59-year-old, it will be 13 months too long.
