Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has moved to reassure West Ham fans after a shocking twist that could see Steve Nickson join promotion rivals Wrexham.
Next week West Ham will discover their fixture list for what the club hopes will be a season which ends with an immediate return to the Premier League.
One thing is for certain, the Championship is set to be as fiercely competitive as ever with Wrexham one of several sides tipped to rival the Hammers for promotion.
Wrexham could beat West Ham to Nickson in shock twist
So missing out to the Welsh side for Newcastle talent spotter Steve Nickson could be a major blow.
That is exactly what Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope reported overnight, with the Magpies reporter claiming Nickson’s expected switch to West Ham is not a done deal.
Tell us how YOU feel as West Ham close in on Steve Nickson appointment?
The Newcastle chief is London-bound… 📝
In fact, Hope claims, Nickson could be set to join Wrexham instead of West Ham to link up with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
Fear not, though, Hammers supporters.

Because Dharmesh Sheth has moved to reassure West Ham fans after that shocking Nickson twist.
West Ham’s new majority owner Daniel Kretinsky did not become a multi-billionaire without being a shrewd and calculated operator.
So it should be no surprise that the Czech energy tycoon has plenty of options for West Ham’s director of football role if they do miss out on Nickson to Wrexham.
Sheth reassures West Ham fans over Nickson move
And there is still every chance Nickson moves to the London Stadium anyway, according to top Sky Sports man Sheth.
“Yeah, so on the face of it, Premier League to Championship (seems a strange move for Nickson), but I think the role he’ll have, he’ll have more responsibility at West Ham United,” Sheth said on the Transfer Talk podcast.
What do you think will be the biggest DIFFERENCE in the Kretinsky era? 🤔
Max Hahn's comments speak volumes…
“It should be said here, though, that he’s one of a number of candidates that West Ham United are looking at for this, to head up the whole sporting division at West Ham, because clearly West Ham are in a bit of flux at the moment.
“They need to go into the championship and they need to come straight back up.
“They’ve pinpointed Nickson as one of a number of candidates that they’ll look at, but he clearly is one of the front runners for this job.”

So fear not West Ham fans, cool, calm and calculated Kretinsky has everything in hand even if Nickson chooses to go to one of their Championship rivals.
Other candidates the Hammers have considered are Kieran Scott of Middlesbrough and Jason Ayto after his departure from Brighton.
It has been claimed Newcastle are asking Nickson to stay for the summer window before joining West Ham or Wrexham.
It is easy to see why given some of the world stars Nickson identified for Newcastle during his 15 years at the club.
