At this point, West Ham United starlet George Earthy must be wondering what more he needs to do in order to secure himself a first Premier League appearance since May 2024.
The England Under-21 international has recovered successfully from both the ankle ligament injury which ruined his summer – Graham Potter had planned to give Earthy a chance in pre-season – as well as the hamstring issue he suffered days after Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival.
Earthy has been racking up the goals and assists for West Ham United’s Under-21s since returning to fitness.
Not only that, he completed the full 90 minutes for the first time since September on a day when he scored the winner in a 1-0 EFL Trophy triumph over Colchester United.

Which Hammers youngster are you most EXCITED about and why?
According to The Standard, Nuno was wary of risking another injury set-back by re-introducing George Earthy too early.
Speaking ahead of that Manchester City clash at the Etihad on Saturday, though, the former Bristol City loanee jumped at the chance to remind the Hammers boss that he is ready and raring to go again.
George Earthy insists he is ready to go at West Ham United
While Nuno has handed a Premier League debut to Ezra Mayers, Mohamadou Kante and Callum Marshall since the start of October, the closest Earthy has come to a top-flight appearance has been a spot on the bench at the Vitality Stadium and Old Trafford.
Despite the fact Lucas Paqueta missed two matches through suspension, the youngster’s wait for a fifth first division appearance drags on. A wait he is hoping to end before 2026 rolls around.

“I was on the bench at Man United,” Earthy tells the club’s official website. “I’m just trying to get back to full fitness, which I have done. Now, it’s about getting match fit.”
If the reports are true and that Nuno’s biggest concern was Earthy’s injury record, the fact he has played consistently for Greg Lincoln’s reserve side over the last two months should dispel any lingering fears.
“It’s something you miss massively [playing first-team football],” he adds. “When you get a taste of it like I did last year [on loan at Ashton Gate], I think it gives you that much more hunger and that much more drive to get back out there.
“Especially for the club that I’ve been at my whole life. I think it makes you that much hungrier, and I can’t wait to get out there.
“It definitely hurts [seeing West Ham in the relegation zone]. And I think it hurts a lot more being a West Ham fan because it just means that much more. I’m just desperate to try and help the team, that’s the first thing of all. And for myself, I’m just also desperate to get out there as well.”
Earthy delighted with West Ham’s current academy crop amid EFL Trophy charge
It did not go unnoticed that Earthy was left out of West Ham’s squad for the 2-1 International Premier League Cup defeat by Sporting Lisbon in midweek. Kante was also nowhere to be seen. The last time he was omitted from Lincoln’s roster, he made his Premier League bow away to Manchester United a day later.
So while the Bristol City fans are urging Earthy to re-join the club where he claimed the Young Player of the Year award in 2024/25, the man himself is fully focused on picking up where he left off at the end of the David Moyes era.

And who is the club's best-ever academy graduate?
Earthy, who scored a first West Ham goal on only his second appearance against Luton Town in May 2025, is delighted to see the current crop of youngsters threaten to follow in his footsteps.
West Ham are the only Under-21 side left in this season’s EFL Trophy, having seen off MK Dons and Swindon as well as Colchester.
“It’s a testament to them really, the fact that we’ve got as far as we’ve got in the Vertu Trophy,” Earthy says. “Obviously, no other Under-21s team got through the actual group stage, so the fact that we’ve got even further by getting through to the next round by beating Colchester, I think it shows how well the Academy is doing at the moment.
“That’ll be very tough [to win at AFC Wimbledon in the round of 16]. But to be fair, I think if the boys just keep doing what they’re doing, then I’ve got no doubt that they’ll put up a really good fight, regardless of the result.”
“[The academy coaches] are top!” Earthy smiles, Mark Robson, Gerard Prenderville, Billy Lepine and Steve ‘dad of Freddie’ Potts earning promotions to Nuno’s senior staff.
“I’ve worked with Gerard since I was 14, Steve for numerous years, Robbo numerous years in the 21s. They’re all top coaches, so to see them all up there, it’s an amazing feeling for us as well.
“The fact that there’s actually chances, not only for the players, but also for the staff, they’re top coaches, so the fact that we can keep learning off them is brilliant.”
