Declan Rice says West Ham squad have had honest meeting and made a vow to one another for the season run-in

Declan Rice says he and the West Ham squad have had an honest meeting and made a vow to one another for the season run-in.

West Ham have been seriously struggling to find any kind of consistent form since the November international break.

Performances, on the whole, have been well below the standards West Ham set themselves last season and before that momentum killing November break. David Moyes has admitted that much himself.

The Hammers managed to scrape three positive results last week. Rice pulled them out of the mire to see off non-league Kidderminster in the FA Cup before a narrow win over Watford and last gasp draw at Leicester.

There were signs of an improved performance level in spells against Leicester.

But some key West Ham players just aren’t at the races right now. With so much to play for in the last three months of the season, the Irons players are going to do everything they can to get things right.

Declan Rice says West Ham squad have had honest meeting and made a vow to one another for the season run-in

Rice revealed after the game that he and the West Ham squad have had an honest meeting and made a vow to one another to be consummate professionals for the run-in.

“We need to still keep believing,” Rice told Sky Sports.

“As a squad last year we were incredible. This year we’re still around the top four spots where many people doubted us for this season with obviously the more games we’re playing.

“We’re still really positive, we’re a great bunch of lads and you know we’ll take each game as it comes…

“Eight points in our last eight games doesn’t sound the best, but we’re still where we are in the table. There’s still a long way to go and we need to be positive (whufc.com).

“There’s one objective for us, and that’s to finish as high as possible. The games are coming thick and fast.

“It’s so important we do everything right to recover for our games. We spoke about it as a group of lads.

“We know we’ve got big games coming up in the next couple of weeks which could define our season, and we’ll be ready.”

Rice really is growing into his role as a leader. It is great to hear how razor focused he is and the fact he is demanding the same of his teammates.

West Ham cannot afford to let any complacency creep in. Or indeed for the Kurt Zouma saga derail a hugely promising season.
