Declan Rice has posted a three-word Arsenal message on social media which will infuriate many West Ham fans.

Former West Ham captain Declan Rice changed a few hearts and minds with how he handled the mixed reception on his return with Arsenal last week.

But that good work may have just been undone.

It was a difficult night for Rice on his Hammers reunion as his old side dumped Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable 3-1 win at the London Stadium.

Much – indeed perhaps too much – of the focus before, during and after the match was on the reception West Ham fans would give their former captain.

It’s fair to say that reception was mixed but applause drowned out jeers as he entered the pitch as a Gunners substitute before West Ham fans then booed his every touch – in a customary fashion dating back years.

There is no escaping the fact many West Ham fans have not taken kindly to Rice’s defection to north London.

But his classy gesture and handling of the situation went down well with most.

He may have burned a few bridges, though, with a few words which might cut some West Ham fans deep.

Taking to his official Facebook page, Rice posted a picture of him with his Arsenal teammates in the defeat to Newcastle alongside the words: “My team forever” and a heart emoji.

West Ham wanted Rice to be in their team forever, offering him an eight-year deal and the biggest contract in Hammers history.

But he turned it down and pushed to join Arsenal over Man City in that £105m deal.

If this is how Rice feels then Hammers fans should be braced for a badge kiss next.
