David Sullivan will be having nightmares over striker with 11 goals this term, now has 54 in last 58 games

West Ham United co-owner David Sullivan will still be having nightmares about one particular striker.

Since David Sullivan took over West Ham alongside the late David Gold way back in 2010, he has had real trouble signing strikers.

Despite the wealth of contacts the West Ham owner has in the game, he has never managed to get a striker signing spot on.

The likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Sebastien Haller, Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill have all come and gone.

Sullivan then sanctioned a £25 million move to bring Niclas Fullkrug to the London Stadium from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether Fullkrug will succeed at West Ham, but had Sullivan pulled the trigger on another transfer in 2023, we wouldn’t even have needed the German.

David Sullivan will forever regret Viktor Gyokeres decision

Viktor Gyokeres was there on a plate for the Hammers 15 months ago.

David Moyes had the chance to bring the 26-year-old hitman to the London Stadium from Coventry City in the summer of 2023.

In the end though, he joined Sporting for around €21.5 million (£18 million), and what a signing he has proven to be for the European giants.

Meanwhile, West Ham have failed miserably in their search for a top-class striker who’s a perfect fit for the way that we play.

That man was Gyokeres, but that ship has sailed now.

Only Europe’s elite clubs will stand a chance of prising him away from the Lisbon giants.

What a huge shame it was that the Hammers didn’t sigh the lethal centre-forward last summer. Although it was Moyes’s decision to reject the Swede, Sullivan should have vetoed him.

Gyokeres the miss of the century for West Ham

The Sweden international would undoubtedly have completely transformed the Hammers.

Gyokeres’ record for Sporting is truly incredible. He now has 11 goals and three assists this season, and has bagged in incredible 54 goals and 18 assists in 58 games for Sporting Club since joining them in the summer of 2023.

The 26-year-old is an elite striker in every sense – one of the most feared on the planet, if not the most feared.

He has absolutely everything – blistering pace, skill, strength, finishing ability and impeccable technique.

Why David Sullivan didn’t overrule Moyes and bring Viktor Gyokeres to West Ham in 2023 is a question I ask myself every day.

And I’m sure the Hammers co-owner is constantly asking himself the same question.
