West Ham United still have a fair bit of work to do before the window slams shut at 11pm on deadline day tomorrow.

David Moyes has brought Kalvin Phillips to West Ham in the January transfer window, but there is still more business in the works, with both incomings and outgoings being discussed before deadline day tomorrow.

The Hammers have numerous players who Moyes would like to shift, including the likes of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.

However, there is another player who is attracting interest from within the Premier League this month it seems.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Crystal Palace have made a move to sign West Ham full-back Ben Johnson late on in the window…

Ornstein claims that Palace have made an enquiry about signing Johnson on a permanent deal before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.

The 24-year-old Hammers full-back is out of contract in the summer, so Palace’s enquiry would have undoubtedly interested the owners.

However, it is suggested by Ornstein that the West Ham board knocked back Palace’s approach, and will discuss a new contract with Johnson over the next few weeks.

The London-born defender has experienced somewhat of a renaissance over the past few weeks, with one performance against Sheffield United really catching the eye recently. Amazingly, Moyes played him in a box-to-box central midfield role and he was the best player on the pitch for the final 20 minutes.

In my opinion, Johnson is still a long way off the levels required to play for a top 10 Premier League club. However, what I will say is that he has shown signs over the past few weeks that perhaps his future lies as a midfielder.

It will be interesting to see where Moyes plays him going forward. For now, it seems like Ben Johnson won’t be leaving West Ham before the window closes on deadline day tomorrow.
