West Ham United striker Danny Ings has failed to establish himself at the London Stadium since joining us 14 months ago.
Danny Ings was heavily linked with an exit from West Ham in the January transfer window, after Wolves apparently tried to sign him.
The 31-year-old joined the Hammers from Aston Villa for around £15 million in January of 2023 (Sky Sports), but David Moyes clearly made a huge mistake by signing him.
Firstly, Ings is painfully ill-suited to Moyes’s system at the London Stadium and secondly, it could be argued that he’s just not good enough to be playing for a team chasing a top six place in the Premier League.
The former Southampton, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Burnley man definitely can’t play through the middle on his own up front, and I have no doubts that he won’t be at the club beyond the end of his contract in the summer of 2025.
However, it must be said that his goal yesterday may well be vital come the end of the season, and it might have just saved Moyes his job…
Danny Ings makes honest admission about West Ham
Ings spoke to reporters after our frustrating 2-2 draw with Burnley at the London Stadium yesterday.
Firstly, the striker explained how he stills believes in himself, as quoted by the Hammers’ official X account:
“You never give up and stop believing in yourself. I’ve scored plenty of goals in this league and to this day I still believe in myself. It’s just been very, very tricky.”
And then he highlighted how hard it has been for him this season, when speaking to WHUFC.com:
“It has been hard at times, but you never give up and you never stop believing in yourself. I’ve always kept working hard, and I’m delighted to have been able to help the team today. Hopefully more goals and good results can follow now.”
Listen, Ings isn’t a bad player at all, he just doesn’t suit Moyes’s system or playing style one little bit.
During his time with the Hammers, he has bagged just four goals in 45 appearances for us (Transfermarkt). That’s just not good enough, whatever way you look at it.
Danny Ings and a West Ham team under Moyes were never going to be a match made in heaven. And the sooner that the two go their separate ways the better for all parties involved.
