There has been confusion over the future of Callum Wilson at West Ham after a report of an apparent U-turn despite his jibe at Nuno Espirito Santo – but it can be easily explained.
There was controversy when Callum Wilson signed for West Ham on a free transfer last summer and many supporters did not want him at the club.
Now Hammers fans do not want him to leave.
Every single time Wilson featured for West Ham this season, he made an impact or looked a genuine goal threat.
Callum Wilson West Ham U-turn confusion easily explained
By far and away the team’s best finisher, supporters have been bemused by his lack of minutes under Nuno Espirito Santo with the team crying out for goals to stay in the Premier League.
More often than not Wilson was restricted to a cameo substitute role and Nuno was even happy to let him leave in January only for the club’s board to step in and block his exit.
What did YOU make of Callum Wilson’s exit?
Nuno might've missed a trick…
The Hammers would have been relegated well before the final day had that been allowed to happen.
That fate still befell the club, though, and attentions have turned to who West Ham can keep to get them straight back into the Premier League next season.

Supporters feel Wilson would be a guarantee of at least 20 goals in the Championship and the hope was he might be persuaded to stay.
Those hopes dwindled when Wilson aimed a swipe at Nuno after reluctantly announcing his West Ham exit in a social media post this week.
There has since been a conflicting report claiming the forward will sign a new one-year deal to remain with the Hammers.
But confusion over a Wilson West Ham U-turn can be easily explained after his Nuno jibe.
New Wilson deal claim is unfortunately old news
Wilson’s dig at Nuno over his lack of game time came as the Hammers confirmed the Portuguese will remain as manager next season.
There was some surprise then when longstanding Hammers website KUMB reported Wilson has verbally agreed a new one-year contract with West Ham, just a matter of weeks before his current deal is set to expire.
On a scale of 1-10, how confident are YOU that Nuno leads us straight back up? 👀
Here's why I think we can learn NOTHING from his time at Wolves 👇
The story, titled ‘A change of heart’, cites reports which claim ongoing discussions regarding Wilson’s future have reportedly led to an agreement – although the contract extension remains unsigned at present.
But Hammers News understands the confusion has been caused by some fans reposting Sky Sports News footage from after the January transfer window as new on social media.

The footage of the broadcast from months ago came when Wilson was indeed in talks over extending his contract.
The Telegraph jumped the gun at the time stating Wilson had signed the new West Ham deal.
Athletic reporter Roshane Thomas later reported that Wilson did not end up signing the deal.
He stated that his club sources – speaking to him on condition of anonymity to protect relationships – told him Wilson was unlikely to remain next season.
The player himself has now confirmed that is the case and reports that he may stay appear to be mistaking old news for new news.
As we reported earlier this week, Hammers News understands a return to his first – and boyhood – club Coventry could be on the cards after Frank Lampard’s side replaced his former club in the top flight.
