West Ham United forward Niclas Fullkrug has endured a tough start to life at the London Stadium.

Niclas Fullkrug has barely played for West Ham so far, and the injury he sustained during the September international break has made it impossible for him to hit the ground running.

It was claimed earlier this week that the Hammers could look to sell Fullkrug in January, such is the disappointment inside the club surrounding his poor form and injury.

The 31-year-old spoke to reporters out in Germany recently, and admitted that he has made a very bad start to life with the Hammers.

That was refreshing honesty from the Germany international, but at the same time it’s concerning to hear.

We needed a striker to come into the London Stadium this summer and hit the ground running, and it just didn’t happen for Fullkrug.

So what does the future hold for the German?

The former Borussia Dortmund striker is still out with a calf problem.

As things stand, there is no specific return date in sight for the 31-year-old, and it looks like the Hammers might have made a big mistake by signing him.

So it was no surprise when it was claimed last week that the West Ham owners could be prepared to cut their losses on him already.

However, it appears as though that claim may not have been true.

Florian Plettenberg, a reporter who has close links with Fullkrug and his entourage, has suggested that the striker is going nowhere.

Listen, I’m really hoping that Niclas Fullkrug comes good for West Ham.

However, I have absolutely no faith that he will right now.

Even before the 31-year-old got injured, he looked miles off the pace when playing for the Hammers.

I just feel like West Ham massively overpaid for Niclas Fullkrug. Had we signed him for £15-18 million, I would have been fairly happy with that.

Let’s just hope that he returns from injury and contributes with plenty of goals and assists for us this season.

As mentioned earlier though, I’m struggling to envisage a scenario whereby he does exactly that.
