Big Kurt Zouma twist as West Ham reporter makes new claim after ‘failed medical’ rumours

It seems like Kurt Zouma is all set to leave West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Kurt Zouma joined West Ham United from our London rivals Chelsea back in the summer of 2021 for around £30 million.

The 29-year-old was exceptional for the Hammers during his first two seasons at the London Stadium, but he regressed badly last term.

And just a few days ago it emerged that he was in talks with Shabab Al-Ahli out in the UAE about a summer transfer away from West Ham.

Moving Zouma on this summer will be key for Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard has already brought in big upgrades on the Frenchman in the form of Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.

But getting rid of Zouma’s massive salary will be hugely beneficial for the club, especially if we manage to get a fee for him as well, even if it’s a nominal one.

So with that in mind, it was a big concern when claims emerged this morning suggesting that Zouma had failed his medical ahead of a proposed move to Shabab Al-Ahli, and that he had returned to London (Sky Sports).

Considering the state of Zouma’s knees, we all knew that moving him on would prove to be difficult this summer.

Really, it’s little wonder why David Sullivan tried to pull out of the deal to sign Zouma after his medical results came in, before his eventual move to the London Stadium.

Over the past 12 months, the West Ham fans have witnessed the former Chelsea man’s painful regression right in front of our eyes.

Zouma’s fall from grace is such a shame – he was an incredible player for us for two years, and that has to be remembered.

However, now is the time for him to leave.

And Hammers insider Sean Whetstone has claimed that the possibility of that happening is still very high.

Whetstone said, “Reports that Kurt Zouma has returned to the UK after his medical are inaccurate, the West Ham centre back remains in UAE and talks are ongoing with Shabab Al-Ahli and it is hoped a compromise can still be reached“

So there you have it, it’s still looking very likely that Kurt Zouma will leave West Ham this summer.

We wish the Frenchman well for the future, but there quite simply isn’t any room for sentiment at elite level sport.

Zouma leaving after Todibo and Kilman were brought to the London Stadium really will be the icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned.
