Leanne Kiernan, of West Ham’s women’s team, has won the club’s Goal of the Month award.
There was a shortlist of five goals scored in August to choose from. This included strikes from West Ham’s first-team, youth team and women’s team.
The other contenders
Marko Arnautovic against Arsenal was the only Premier League goal nominated.

The Austrian international combined well with Felipe Anderson before netting from outside the box.
The other first-team goal was Issa Diop against AFC Wimbledon. With the Hammers trailing in the cup, the young French defender carried the ball forward and hit a thumping low shot into the net from range.

Xande Silva, a summer arrival, had two goals on the shortlist. Playing for the PL2 side, the Portugal youth international’s goals against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City were up for the award.
Leanne Kiernan: a deserved winner
Kiernan’s strike for the women’s team was the deserved winner. Having signed in the summer, the Republic of Ireland international wasted no time impressing at West Ham.
Against Lewes in the cup, she contributed to a 4-1 win with this fine goal. Kiernan received the ball, knocked it past the defender and then hit an unstoppable shot from range, which clipped the underside of the bar on its way in.
Here are how West Ham fans reacted to Kiernan receiving the Goal of the Month award.
