Aji Alese put in an absolutely superb performance for Sunderland over the weekend, with his sale from West Ham now coming under closer scrutiny.

West Ham United sold the young centre-back to Championship club Sunderland during the summer transfer window.

The Hammers only received around £500k plus add-ons for Alese as well, according to ExWHUemployee.

David Moyes received plenty of criticism from the West Ham fans for letting the 21-year-old leave the London Stadium on a permanent deal.

Alese has already spoken at how much he is enjoying playing under Tony Mowbray at Sunderland.

And it was at his best once again for the Black Cats on Saturday…

The 21-year-old struggled for regular game time when he first made his move to the Stadium of Light.

He is now playing regularly for Sunderland though and has started their last three Championship games.

The Black Cats have kept two clean sheets during those three games.

Alese is beginning to show the talent that he displayed on a regular basis for the West Ham under-23s for the past few years.

The young centre-back is beginning to look like the real deal at senior level as well now.

And his display against Preston for Sunderland on Saturday was arguably he best so far. He made an unbelievable goal-line clearance that ended up earning his side a point:

Sunderland have made a very impressive start to the 2022/23 Championship campaign after earning promotion from League One last season.

The Black Cats are currently sitting in 8th place in the table, just two points adrift of the promotion places.

Aji Alese haș made a huge impression for Sunderland. It will be no surprise if he helps them push for a top six finish in the table this season.

And if he keeps on impressing, West Ham’s decision to sell him in the summer rather than loan him out will look like a really poor one.
