West Ham United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has just blown the lid off one huge misconception about Graham Potter.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a standout performer for West Ham this season, and is in a head-to-head race with Jarrod Bowen to win the Hammer of the Year award.

Nine new players arrived at the London Stadium in the summer of 2024, and the 27-year-old is one of the few success stories from that doomed transfer window.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has spoken about how happy he is at West Ham right now, and that’s great to hear.

The former Manchester United man has actually gone from strength to strength since Graham Potter took over.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka busts West Ham and Graham Potter myth

The Hammers had real success during David Moyes’s tenure at the club, including the incredible 2023 Europa Conference League truimph.

Aside from that two or three year spell though, success has been thin on the ground for West Ham.

Before the successful 2023 Conference League campaign, you had to go all the way back to 1980 for the Hammers last major trophy.

The general perception of the Hammers is that there is a culture at the club whereby mediocrity is accepted.

And the same can be said for Potter.

Many fans and pundits have suggested that he’s more obsessed with implementing an attractive playing style than he is with actually winning games.

He has been questioned at times for the way that he seemingly accepts poor performances from his players at times.

However, Wan-Bissaka’s latest comments totally dispel that myth.

The 27-year-old shared how the club has a real winning mentality in general right now, when speaking to WHUFC.com:

“I’d say I’m happy!” Wan-Bissaka beamed. “I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve joined a great group here at West Ham, and everyone wants to win, everyone wants to do well. I think that’s one thing every player wants to do, just enjoy their football, be able to smile and just try and help the team.”

That’s great to hear, but the proof will be in the pudding in the long-term.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka disputes big London Stadium claim as well

The majority of Hammers fans cannot abide our Stratford ‘home’.

The atmosphere can be non-existent at times, whilst the seats are far too far away from the pitch to intimidate our opponents.

However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s recent comments on the London Stadium completely busted that myth:

“Making London Stadium our home, it’s a beautiful stadium. Before I joined, I had played here but was on the other end, so to experience it on this end is very special and has been an incredible feeling.”

That proves that the fans are perhaps a little harsh on the London Stadium at times.

That said, the atmosphere inside the arena on match-days can definitely be improved a lot, despite what Wan-Bissaka says.
