It’s now time to analyze Player performance from the weekend’s defeat to Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, as Derby Day disappointment left The Claret & Blue Army with a bitter taste at The London Stadium.
Joe Hart: 6/10
In a Game that, once again, England’s No1 conceded more goals than he should have, the fault mainly laid with the defence and not the keeper.
However, Hart was rather hasty to race off his line in a bid to intercept Three Lions teammate Dele Alli and his decision was accredited to being the main cause of Spurs’ second, as his run of three clean sheets in four for Club and Country came to an end.
Pablo Zabaleta: 8/10
Yet another fantastic Man of the Match performance from the Argentine, both his attacking and defensive abilities were felt greatly in his presence.
The consistency of his showings is what is most eye-catching and Saturday was no different, what a signing he is turning out to be.
Jose Fonte: 6/10
Fonte was part of a very poor defensive display that couldn’t contain the Spurs attack and failed to turn any heads.
While he did make a few decent tackles in the final third, he played a small part in the conceding of the first two goals, many Hammers are now calling for his replacement ahead of the Swansea clash.
Winston Reid: 7/10
Featuring as the middle part of a defensive trio, The Kiwi was a shining light in a dark abyss of poor defending.
Adopting his usual ragged style, Reid broke down several of the opposition’s attacks by sweeping out to win possession and was cool and composed on the ball.
Angelo Ogbonna: 6/10
Replacing James Collins for his first start since last month, the Italian centre-back was coming into the tie off the back of netting in the week in a Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers.
But, despite making a few good clearances, was largely poor and caught sleeping a number of times by Tottenham’s pace and power in attack.
Aaron Cresswell: 6/10
It was to be another frustrating afternoon for the England International as he looks a shadow of the Player that he once was in Claret & Blue.
The No3 is also facing the same level of Competition from Arthur Masuaku as he did last season and did himself no favors with a poor quality of delivery and poor defensive showing.
Mark Noble: 7/10
In returning to Premier League action for the first time this month, the skipper was typically fired up for the London Derby and put in a series of great tackles.
It was very hard to fault his performance, but Noble will be hoping that the whole Team can perform better against The Swans.
Cheikhou Kouyate: 7/10
Getting fitter and more adapted our current style of play Game by Game, the Senegal captain was much improved from recent weeks.
Kouyate also got back on the goal trail with a powerful late header that just wasn’t quite enough for a point, but he has certainly done enough to hold down his established place in the starting Xl.
Michail Antonio: 6/10
A very unfortunate afternoon indeed for the forward, who pulled up on 28 minutes with a groin injury.
The knock could prove to be a big blow with a spell on the side-lines surely set to follow for the England man.
Javier Hernandez: 8/10
Hammers fans were delighted to see Chicharito starting as a striker finally, but he was pushed wide with the introduction of Andy Carroll, a position in which he notoriously is isolated from the ball in.
However, the Mexican did weigh in with his first goal at The London Stadium to make it 3-1 and will be hoping to add to his tally next weekend.
Marko Arnautovic: 7/10
After impressing on his full home debut in midweek, the Austrian could only display that type of form in short bursts which were largely ineffective.
However, Arnautovic did come close to muscling his way in on goal in the first period but was denied by a superb Serge Aurier tackle before his red card.
Andy Carroll: 6/10
Replacing the injured Michail Antonio before the Break, Carroll’s almost instant contribution to the Game was giving the ball away to Christian Eriksen for Spurs’ opener.
The former Magpie failed to make up for his costly error with any real attacking threat but will be set to return from the start for Saturday with Antonio’s injury.
Andre Ayew: 6/10
Coming on in place of Arnautovic on 68 minutes, Ayew had very little to offer and was at best, a passenger during his cameo.
The Ghanaian has found it difficult to break into the starting Xl of late and will be doing himself no favors with an absent showing from the bench.
Arthur Masuaku: 7/10
The DR Congo International’s display may have been short-lived but it proved vital and successful in East London.
Masuaku was being trailed in a more attacking role after replacing Jose Fonte in the 74th minute and provided a wonderful cross to Cheikhou Kouyate’s constellation. Just days before, he netted himself against The Trotters with a wondrous long-range effort and is in blistering form.
