West Ham United put up such a pathetic fight against Newcastle United in what was effectively a relegation decider that Sky Sports found the time to interview Kieran Trippier during the game.
Indeed, West Ham lost 3-1 to Newcastle on Sunday in insipid fashion to all but seal their fate in the Premier League’s relegation battle.
We are all but relegated — how would you feel about keeping Nuno in the Championship? 🧑💼
Or was that performance the last straw? 😡
The performance was bad enough but the fact that Sky Sports gave Trippier an exit interview after he came off in the 85th minute at St James’ Park summed up the sheer lack of competitiveness from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Trippier interviewed by Sky Sports DURING crucial West Ham game
Play was still ongoing when Sky Sports spoke to Trippier about his Newcastle career after his final-ever home appearance for the Magpies was complete.
West Ham were of such little threat in a game they desperately needed to win – against a team who have quite literally conceded the highest number of late goals this season – that it almost didn’t matter what was happening on the pitch.
Which West Ham player was the most infuriating against Newcastle United?
The Hammers were shambolic at St. James' Park…
The fact there were reasonable chances for both teams DURING that interview was almost irrelevant, such was the mess West Ham had got themselves into.
The travelling support up in the heavens on Tyneside were heard chanting “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” at some of the players and it was certainly difficult to disagree.

Sky may well have interviewed Trippier regardless of the result, but it’s hard to imagine him being asked questions if the story was West Ham plunging relegation rivals Tottenham into the bottom three.
West Ham’s survival bid became little more than a sideshow to Trippier’s farewell at Newcastle.
That is an embarrassment.
To not even put up a fight is the worst thing one can say about this group of players. Relegation is not all their fault but they must be held accountable for that at least.
