Jamie Carragher has delivered this verdict on whether West Ham United’s opening goal vs Bournemouth should have stood.
Tonight’s game was an absolute must win, and West Ham put in one of our better first-half performances of the season so far.
The Hammers took the lead just before half-time through a Kurt Zouma header.
It was a highly contentious decision, however, after Thilo Kehrer handled the ball with both hands from Jarrod Bowen’s corner.

The goal was awarded but not before a lengthly check from VAR. West Ham fans would have feared the worst, with Mike Dean in the hot-seat at Stockley Park.
There was no need to worry though, and the Hammers went into half-time 1-0 up.
Should the goal have stood though?
Jamie Carragher on whether West Ham goal vs Bournemouth should have stood
The Sky Sports pundit was asked whether he believes that the Kurt Zouma goal should have been ruled out because of Thilo Kehrer’s handball.
And Carragher declared that the goal should have stood, when speaking to Sky Sports (Monday October 24th, 8:56pm):

I think it’s a goal. I go with the officials. There’s no doubt, it hits the arm of the West Ham defender, but it’s recycled and it keeps on going.
Personally I think that the goal should have been ruled out.
I understand that the rules have changed and that any handball has to ‘directly’ lead to a goal, in order for it to be ruled out.
But come on, we would have been up in arms had that gone against us.
Having said all of that, West Ham have had plenty of decisions go against us this season. So it’s about time that we had a bit of luck.
Jamie Carragher has delivered his verdict on whether the West Ham goal vs Bournemouth should have stood or not. We disagree with him, but at the same time, we’ll take it all day long.
