Gary Lineker was very impressed by the performance of West Ham United defender Craig Dawson last night.

The 30-year-old has been unbelievable for the Hammers since moving to the London Stadium on loan in October last year.

There weren’t many West Ham fans who were pleased when David Moyes signed Dawson.

The Watford-owned ace’s critics have firmly been put to bed, however.

What a signing he has been!

Gary Lineker took to Twitter and suggested that Craig Dawson has morphed into Sergio Ramos!

Dawson’s defending has been outstanding since he broke into the West Ham team just after Christmas.

In 12 Premier League appearances for the Hammers, the 30-year-old has averaged 0.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, four clearances and 0.8 blocks per game. He has also won an average of 2.6 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).

Surprisingly, however, Dawson has contributed at the other end of the pitch as well.

He has three Premier League goals to his name as well as one in the FA Cup.

So it’s easy to see why Gary Lineker made the Sergio Ramos comparison last night!

The Real Madrid and Spain legend has forged a superb career by being a tenacious and dogged defender. He has an incredible knack of scoring goals as well with 100 to his name in 668 games for Madrid to his name (Transfermarkt).

Lineker obviously made the Dawson and Ramos comparison in jest. In all seriousness though, the 30-year-old has been one of the best, if not the best central defender in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

Moyes deserves a lot of credit for showing faith in the towering centre-back.

Most of the credit should go to Dawson himself, however. He is already a cult hero in East London.

And it would be a huge surprise if his loan deal wasn’t made permanent in the summer.
