Rice took the spot-kick after Michy was brought down inside the first two minutes at the Hawthorns.

Unfortunately for the 22-year-old, however, he hit the post.

Rice has been absolutely outstanding for West Ham over the past three seasons.

The 22-year-old has been our best and most consistent performer.

It seems as though penalty taking is not his forte, however.

Michail Antonio comments on Declan Rice penalty

Will David Moyes now take Dec off penalty duties? Who knows. One option for the Scot could be to replace Rice with Michail Antonio, when Mark Noble is out of course.

The 31-year-old slotted home impressively when he took a spot-kick against Manchester United last season at Old Trafford.

Incredibly, it was the only penalty he has taken during his career to date!

Michy joked about Rice’s miss from the spot last night when a reporter asked him whether Dec should now be off penalties:

“100 per cent. The gaffer wanted Dec to take it, he took it today and it seems like someone else has to step up next time.”

Antonio was obviously speaking in jest but in all seriousness, Rice should not be on penalties anymore.

He just doesn’t look comfortable over the ball.

Mark Noble will always be our penalty taker until he stops playing.

When he’s not on the pitch, however, perhaps Antonio should now be handed the spot-kick duties.
