West Ham United put in a terrific performance against Sunderland at the London Stadium on Saturday.

And Jermain Defoe has absolutely raved about one West Ham player in particular after the Hammers beat the Black Cats 3-1.

West Ham are now just two points adrift of Nottingham Forest and Premier League survival seems like a very real prospect now.

Nuno Espirito Santo would have been delighted with his side’s performance at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Every single player to a man put in a top-class performance and they were more than deserving of the three points against Sunderland.

It must have been so refreshing for the West Ham fans to see their players put in a shift like they did on Saturday.

But which Hammer really caught Defoe’s eye?

It was extremely hard to select a man of the match after the Hammers’ win over Sunderland.

So many players put in truly superb performances, but one man stood out to Defoe.

When speaking live on Premier League Productions on Saturday (January 24th), Defoe named Crysencio Summerville as West Ham’s best player during their win over Sunderland.

“It has been a long time coming to get his level of performance for West Ham. That is what this team can do.

“Summerville was the best player on the pitch. Back-to-back wins is huge and puts pressure on the teams ahead of them. That is the level now.“

Defoe is spot on regarding his take on Summerville. The former Leeds man had the Sunderland defenders on the back foot throughout the entire 90 minutes on Saturday.

Crysencio Summerville the difference-maker for West Ham

Summerville was electric once again for the Hammers against Sunderland.

That’s three goals and an assist in his last three games for West Ham now.

The Hammers fans are finally starting to see Summerville’s true potential and he could well be the man who keeps the club in the Premier League this season.

His electric pace and direct running makes such a big difference for West Ham inside the final third.

The challenge now for the 24-year-old will be to maintain his current form for the remainder of the season.

If Summerville manages to do that, West Ham will be just fine.
