Jarrod Bowen did not make any excuses for West Ham’s 2-0 loss against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Hammers had been in much better form than the Villans lately and would have expected to earn at least a point.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were short of ideas from the first minute to the last at Villa Park.

Bowen’s comments after the game will only add to the disappointment among West Ham supporters after the defeat.

A very underwhelming Villa Park defeat! 🙄

Describe THAT performance in one word…

West Ham fell a long way short of their recent standards against Villa and let their travelling supporters down.

Speaking candidly in his post-match interview, Bowen did not deny that the Hammers deserved to lose.

Bowen told Sky Sports: “I think we have to accept that the performance was not good enough and put it behind us now…

“You have to hold your hands up and say they were better than us on the day, which is horrible to admit, but we weren’t at the races for whatever reason…

Who was the BEST of a bad bunch at Villa Park?

“It has not been a good season at all for us, but we have to keep fighting to stay in the Premier League.”

West Ham fans will appreciate Bowen’s honesty, but his comments will not make up for the team’s dismal display.

At the very least, the players needed to fight for the badge as much as their opponents did, which was not the case on Sunday.

“Not at the races” is the perfect way to describe the Hammers’ tame performance all over the pitch.
