Jamie Redknapp was critical of David Moyes’ tactics after West Ham United lost 3-1 at home to Liverpool yesterday, when speaking on Sky Sports (Sunday, January 31st, 18:41).

The Hammers were comfortably beaten by the Reds.
Many West Ham fans were left disappointed after the match because we never took the game to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
We had a real opportunity to go for the jugular yesterday but instead we just sat back and invited the Premier League champions on to us.

David Moyes has performed miracles since taking over at the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019. Even his harshest of critics will have to admit that he has done a fine job in east London.
There is one area where the Scot seems to fall short time and time again, however. West Ham seem to give the so-called big clubs way too much respect. Moyes did the same away at Chelsea before Christmas.
It seems as though he sets his teams up to play the ‘brand’ rather than the team selected on paper.
Jamie Redknapp criticises David Moyes
Carlton Cole suggested there was no harm in losing to Liverpool yesterday.
Jamie Redknapp disagreed, however, and shared his disappointment at how defensively West Ham lined up against Liverpool, when speaking on Sky Sports (Sunday, January 31st, 18:41):

“I disagree. When you look at that Liverpool side, they’ve got no Mane, no Firmino in the starting line-up, a makeshift defence. This was the opportunity of a lifetime. I think West Ham gave it up today. They didn’t do enough, no energy. Did they ever believe they were going to get a result today? I don’t think they did. I think the tactics from the start were to sit back and soak up pressure, this was an opportunity to really get after this side.”
Redknapp got this one absolutely spot on.
Would it have really mattered had we gone for the jugular and got ripped apart? This is clearly a one-off season where anything can happen.
Sure, a top 10 finish this season would be a sign of real progress. There is a genuine feeling amongst the fans that we could really push on and crack the top six, however.
If our approach doesn’t change in the big games, however, we may well find it hard to do that.
There is the small matter of the board failing to back Moyes in the transfer market as well, of course.
Hopefully they will spring a surprise and bring in a striker on deadline day.
One thing that is undeniable, however, is the fact that we are in a far stronger position now than we were this time last year.
