Jamie Carragher shared his surprise that Leeds failed to learn their lesson from their first clash against West Ham in December last night, when speaking during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme (Monday, March 8th, 8:52pm).

The Whites lost 2-0 to the Hammers. In fairness, the result flattered us.

Leeds were very good inside the first 15 minutes or so, and they really should have been one or two goals up.

The West Ham players found their stride, however, and broke the deadlock from the penalty spot midway through the first-half.

Craig Dawson then made it two after nodding home from an Aaron Cresswell corner in the 28th minute.

Jamie Carragher critical of Leeds after West Ham goal from set-piece

Marcelo Bielsa would have been fuming. His Leeds team are so exciting to watch going forward but are incredibly naive defensively.

Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports last night how Leeds were warned of the threat that West Ham posed just three months ago:

“I just want to go to the reverse fixture. It’s relatively a carbon copy of what they’ve done tonight for their second goal. They just try and look for the far post and they try and block off the goalkeeper. It was Haller for West Ham (blocking off the keeper during there game at Elland Road). Two runners at the back post, they aim for that and the keeper’s not set. So they’ve had the warning and then tonight…”

If Leeds are going to make any kind of progress aver the next few years, they simply must learn to defend better as a unit.

Marcelo Bielsa will not waver from his beliefs, however. He always sets his team up to man mark. Perhaps that needs to change if the Whites are to achieve any kind of success under the Argentinian.

Fortunately, that’s not our problem. We have nothing to complain about at the moment.

Things are looking very bright in East London. We are not a pushover anymore. We look threatening every time we go forward, especially from set-pieces.

Let the good times roll! COYI
