Jamie Carragher felt Mateus Fernandes was a ‘class apart’ during West Ham United’s hard-fought 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night.
But if the Portuguese playmaker was the Man of the Match – TalkingPoint users can vote for yours right here, by the way – then Axel Disasi and Konstantinos Mavropanos were not far behind in Carragher’s assessment.
Mavropanos scored a remarkable brace against Wolves last time out, and nearly took his tally to four goals in games at Selhurst Park. Only a superb Dean Henderson save denied the free-scoring defender a first-half opener.

“He looked a class apart, getting on the ball, showing that class,” Liverpool legend Carragher told Sky Sports of Fernandes. “And the centre-backs were fantastic.
“The amount of times Mavropanos and Disasi got their head on the ball… A joy to watch.

“West Ham supporters will be slightly disappointed, but it’s one of those results where, every day that passes, it will feel better. You’ve got to take the positives.”
Carragher points out that West Ham managed to record a fifth clean sheet in their last nine Premier League matches despite the fact Oliver Glasner had the luxury of bringing on Conference League heroes Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr.
The attacking duo have 30 goals between them this season.

“Palace are in good form, a team that brought on Mateta and Sarr,” Carragher added.
“I think that bodes well for West Ham, that the two centre-backs were absolutely outstanding. They are going to need that if they are going to survive.
“They’ve got an away game out the way and they are in the same position.”
