Incredible chant West Ham fans aimed at the Brentford away end lifted spirits on extremely dark day

The West Ham vs Brentford clash was a painful reminder of just how much work Graham Potter has on his hands.

West Ham were quite simply horrendous during our 1-0 defeat to Brentford at the London Stadium on Saturday, and the fans were not impressed.

Numerous players let us down today, and failed to hit the heights that they’re capable of.

Graham Potter chose to start Konstantinos Mavropanos against Brentford, and that decision instantly killed the mood around the stadium prior to kick-off.

However, the Greek centre-back wasn’t the only one who underperformed.

Pretty much every single player on the pitch failed to meet the standards required at our football club.

However, there was one bright spark on the day, it’s just a shame that it happened off the pitch…

It was a dark, gloomy afternoon in East London on Saturday, and I’m not just talking about the weather.

There’s no doubt that it will take a long time for Potter to get his team back to the levels they should be at.

Julen Lopetegui has seriously set this great club back, and Potter will be under no illusions as to the size of the task that lies ahead of him.

The defeat to Brentford today was a really sobering experience for the players and the fans.

Despite the fact that we lost by just one goal, we never looked like even getting a point from the game.

In fairness, the Bees should have won by a more comfortable scoreline.

There was one point in the afternoon when the fans’s spirits were lifted, but it wasn’t due to anything good happening on the pitch.

As the clock ticked down towards the end of the game, the Hammers fans decided to entertain themselves.

An absolutely brilliant chant was aimed at the away section:

How s**t must you be, you sit down away.

The away fans were sitting down for large parts of the contest at the London Stadium – unheard of really for an away following.

I must say, that chant actually made me laugh when I was watching a really turgid performance. We can always rely on the Hammers fans to cheer us up when the team let us down can’t we!

Brentford were far too good for West Ham today, but at least we had the last laugh on the terraces!

Small mercies indeed!
