If at first you don’t succeed for super Tomas Soucek as David Moyes’ Czech mate spared his blushes after his risk averse West Ham tactics backfired.
West Ham fans watching the second half display against Nottingham Forest will all be scratching their heads wondering the same thing.
Why don’t we play like that all the time?
West Ham were handed the lead on a plate with a gift gratefully received by Lucas Paqueta after just a couple of minutes at the London Stadium.
It came as a result of West Ham pressing high up the pitch and playing on the front foot.

If at first you don’t succeed for super Tom
Forest were all over the place and looked there for the taking. West Ham should have gone 2-0 up but for poor decision making when it mattered most.
So what does David Moyes do next? Switches to sitting deep and playing on the counter attack.
That only served to invite Nottingham Forest on and they got an equaliser on half-time.
West Ham were jeered off at the break because of the sideways and backwards risk averse football.
When Forest took the lead in the second half, you could sense the knives being sharpened for Moyes.
But Jarrod Bowen equalised from a James Ward-Prowse corner.
Then it was one of Moyes’ favourites who took centre stage – Tomas Soucek.

Perseverance pays but risk averse Moyes must learn lesson
The midfielder somehow missed two gilt-edged chances to put the Hammers 3-2 in front. And it looked set to cost them dear as the clock ticked down.
But it was a case of if at first you don’t succeed for super Soucek as Moyes’ Czech mate spared his blushes after his risk averse West Ham tactics backfired.
Soucek rose highest to bravely head home another Ward-Prowse set-piece delivery in the dying moments and secure the win. Just.
All credit to Soucek. He wasn’t having his greatest game. But he persevered despite his misses and got the winner as well as making a host of vital clearances in his own box.
A win is a win when you’ve been on the kind of dismal run of league form that West Ham have been on.
Up into the top half and things looking up again after the international break.
Come. On. You. Irons.
