Ian Wright was not pleased with what he saw from West Ham as they lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday in the Premier League.

While West Ham are still not in the relegation zone, a win for Tottenham in their game in hand will see them leapfrog their London rivals into 17th place.

Spurs take on Aston Villa on Sunday, and the Irons will be hoping that Unai Emery’s side can pick up the three points.

Ian Wright believes West Ham deserve to get relegated

Wright was analysing the footage of the three goals the Hammers conceded, and based on that, he believes that they deserve to be relegated.

West Ham were all over the place defensively, and while they did create a few half-chances going forward, it was their lack of organisation that cost them the game.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s teams are usually well-drilled and work hard off the ball, but Wright saw Brentford playing through them on Saturday.

He was also not pleased with El Hadji Malick Diouf giving away a penalty that put the game beyond all doubt.

The former Arsenal striker believes that the left-back is one of Nuno’s trusted players and that the manager will feel let down by him throwing himself to the floor when he did not need to.

Wright told Premier League Productions: “Nuno will be thinking that one of the players who’ll get me out of trouble is making that decision. It was a terrible performance from the team.”

Looking at how the Hammers conceded the third goal, he added: “Look at that. Look at how they’re defending. You deserve to go down. Crazy.”

On a scale of 1-10, how confident are you about staying up now? 👀

How can West Ham avoid relegation?

West Ham will avoid relegation if Tottenham lose all their remaining matches, but that is not a strategy that they can bank upon.

Nuno will have seen some positives in the build up against Brentford, but also seen how poorly his side reacted to transitions and also how a lot of players switched off during the game.

That is something the Portuguese manager would want to change and eradicate from the squad, as everyone needs to put in their blood and sweat to fight for the team.

There is likely to be more emphasis on defending set pieces over the coming days, and that could help them get something from the game against Arsenal.
