The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester United last month until the end of the season.
Many West Ham fans questioned the wisdom behind David Moyes’s decision to bring the 24-capped England international to the London Stadium.
Anyone who doubted Lingard, however, was reminded of his outstanding ability last night.
The West Ham loanee scored two goals for Moyes’s men.

He racked up a 91% pass completion rate from 44 passes (Football Critic). He totally dictated the tempo of the game for the Hammers.
And Glenn Hoddle absolutely raved about the ‘outstanding’ Jesse Lingard last night, when speaking on BT Sports’ production of our win over Aston Villa last night (Wednesday February 3rd, 22:03):
“Jesse Lingard has been outstanding, for a debut, it’s as good a debut as you’ll get.”
It is already obvious to see that Lingard will have a key role to play for West Ham between now and the end of the season.
The 28-year-old will be pivotal to our hopes of finishing inside the top six.
And off he helps us do just that, David Moyes will look like a genius for bringing him to the London Stadium.
It’s just such a shame that we don’t have an option to buy Lingard in the summer.
