David Moyes delivered yet another harsh verdict on Said Benrahma when speaking to reporters after West Ham United’s defeat to Everton yesterday, as quoted by Football.London.

We make no bones about the fact that Benrahma was poor yesterday.

The 25-year-old quite simply wasn’t at the races. He didn’t provide any kind of threat to the Everton back four and his work rate wasn’t really up to scratch either.

The Algeria international seems to have a great game. He then gets told by David Moyes that he needs to do more and be more consistent.

Benrahma then follows it up with an average or poor performance.

It has been a common theme for the former Brentford ace this season.

Perhaps his confidence has been affected by Moyes continually deciding to dig him out during his post-game press conferences?

The Scot was asked about the Algerian’s performance yesterday and insisted that the winger still has a lot to learn, as quoted by Football.London:

“I think it is difficult for many players who come to the Premier League, you often see big buys coming in, people who have spent big money on players and it takes them some time to settle. The Premier League is very demanding, it is different from what is required of other leagues so this is a big step up for Said just as it was for Jarrod Bowen who has started and done very well for us. It is the same for Said. Said has had some really good performances for us but as you can see he has a lot to do, and there is a lot to learn and there is a lot to make sure he improves as he goes forward and I am sure he will.”

The thing is, when Benrahma had played just 64 minutes for West Ham and racked up two assists, he already looked like he belonged in the Premier League.

It just seems like Moyes’s comments in the press after games haven’t helped Benny one little bit. He seems nervous and terrified of giving the ball away now when he’s in possession.

The 25-year-old is the kind of player who needs a free role. He needs to play with freedom and things will just happen. He’s overthinking everything at the moment.

Moyes criticising Benrahma is fine. But where’s the consistency?

He didn’t say anything about Jarrod Bowen, Jesse Lingard or Michail Antonio yesterday. And they were equally as poor as the Algerian.

Criticism is fine. Perhaps that’s how Moyes thinks he’ll get the best out of Benny. We disagree but it’s fine it that’s what he wants to do.

We just want some consistency, however.

Hopefully Benrahma will come good for West Ham. It does seem like he needs a pat on the back from Moyes sometimes though. Hopefully the Scot realises that and changes tack with the Algerian.
