West Ham United forward Callum Wilson appeared to address the nature of his performance against Fulham on Wednesday evening.

Wilson was brought back into Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting lineup as West Ham United made the short trip across London to play Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The veteran hadn’t started a Premier League game since the 2-0 win away at Burnley in late February, though he did start the FA Cup victory at Burton a few days after that.

In all honesty, anyone watching Wednesday night’s game would surely admit that Wilson struggled for West Ham against Fulham.

He did appear to admit as much in a very honest Instagram message after the game.

Indeed, Wilson posted a collage of images from the game and captioned it: “Much needed +3. Few cobwebs to dust off, but we move! See you all in the cup on Monday night.”

While the 33-year-old wasn’t a complete disaster, he is right to say there were a few cobwebs present on Wednesday evening.

When was the last time a West Ham player excited you so much?! 😍

He rushed a decent enough chance in the first half and skied the ball well over the bar, before mistiming a header from close range after the break.

As per FotMob data, he only completed two of the four passes he attempted in his 60 minutes on the pitch.

The two shots he attempted both went off target and he amassed only ten touches of the ball while winning neither of the duels he contested.

Wilson certainly put himself about and leant on the wealth of his experience, but it would be fair to say that not a lot came off for him on a foggy night at Craven Cottage.

The forward has scored some crucial goals to get his side into a position where they can dream of Premier League survival, however, and that certainly deserves respect.

If West Ham stay up, Wilson will have played a big part.
