Alan Smith raved about Angelo Ogbonna after his ‘dominant’ display for West Ham against Sheffield United this afternoon, when speaking on Sky Sports (Sunday November 22nd, 15:47).
The 32-year-old centre-back has been in superb form for the Hammers since the start of last season.
The Italy international has been an absolute rock for West Ham. And the manner in which he organises our back line must not be underestimated.
Ogbonna joined the Hammers for around £10 million from Juventus in the summer of 2015 (BBC).
Bargain for West Ham
And he has since proven to be an absolute steal at that price.
The Italian was at his very best once again at Bramall Lane against Sheffield United today.
Alan Smith said that Ogbonna’s dominant display was enough to earn him the man of the match award:
“The big man (Angelo Ogbonna) in the middle of the defence for West Ham. He’s led from there, he hasn’t missed much at all as Sheffield United have thrown everything at him. A really dominant display.”
Ogbonna is defying the years.
His recent displays have been as good as any central defender in the Premier League this season.
It is absolutely vital for West Ham that the experienced Italian remains fit and on his best form between now and May if we are to achieve a top eight finish.
David Moyes will be delighted at how Ogbonna has played this season. Let’s just hope the centre-back keeps it up.
