‘You’re not too good to care about West Ham clash’ Mikel Arteta warns Arsenal stars and it’s ominous for David Moyes.

Arsenal visit West Ham in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night with a warning from Mikel Arteta ringing in their ears.

With Arsenal facing a glut of tough fixtures as they look to challenge for the Premier League title and go deep in the Champions League, many expect Arteta to field a weakened Gunners team against the Hammers.

It seems that will be the case with three key Arsenal stars out and two more set to be rested.

But that does not mean Arteta is taking the game against out of form West Ham lightly.

The Spaniard says the fact the Carabao Cup is a lower priority and Arsenal will be favourites against a West Ham team who have lost three games in a week means nothing to him.

When asked whether the game at West Ham in the cup was one he and his players could do without, Arteta pointed many of his side are yet to lift major silverware with the club.

And therefore they cannot afford to view the Carabao Cup clash at Wets Ham with anything less than full respect.

‘I don’t see any World Cup winners here’ Arteta warns Gunners ahead of Hammers clash

“I don’t know if we can convince them, (the fans)” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.

“If you ask about what the priority would be, it wouldn’t be the Carabao Cup for sure. For us it’s more internally how we use it. The amount of work we put in ourselves and how we approach every single game playing for Arsenal Football Club. You cannot approach it in any different way because that’s not respecting the game…

“I don’t think I have three World Cup winners in the squad that can think like this about the Carabao Cup.

“I might be wrong, but I don’t think anyone can think like that. I think that would be very, very arrogant.”

The shot across the bows from Arteta to his players is ominous for Moyes.

Under pressure after a week to forget, he – like everyone connected with West Ham – were hoping they might catch Arsenal with their guard down in a game low on their priority list.

It seems that was wishful thinking, though, judging by Arteta’s very clear wake-up call to his squad ahead of the trip to the London Stadium.
