West Ham fans are finally set to get what they’ve been asking for when they travel to Burnley.
West Ham go into the game at Turf Moor without a win in six. As a result the Hammers have dropped to 13th in the table.
Burnley – a tough place to go at any time – is actually one of the more winnable matches on what is fast becoming a daunting fixture list over the next two months.
Pellegrini has already admitted he would have changed all 11 players if he could at half-time of recent defeats against Everton and Newcastle.
His squad is seriously lacking strength in depth in key areas.
Pellegrini to make three changes as he finally switches system
So the Chilean will have to make do with three changes instead. And he is planning to switch to two up top for Saturday’s clash.
If Pellegrini had a proven, capable back-up goalkeeper for the hapless Roberto then he would undoubtedly be the first player dragged from the team.
But he doesn’t. So the Spaniard – at fault for at least one goal in every game he has played besides Newport County – remains.
Pablo Zabaleta will be replaced by Ryan Fredericks in a change that does not need explaining.
Noble and Snodgrass grit key as Ajeti gets big chance with Yarmo making way
And Angelo Ogbonna will return to the side after being harshly dropped in favour of Fabian Balbuena for recent matches, without success.
Andriy Yarmolenko will make way for striker Albian Ajeti, who gets his first Premier League start to help alleviate the pressure on the increasingly isolated Sebastien Haller.
Robert Snodgrass, who has been West Ham’s best player since returning to the team, will shift across to take up Yarmolenko’s position.
Lanzini on the bench again
Pellegrini will be toying with dropping captain Mark Noble in favour of the more athletic and creative Manuel Lanzini.
But Noble’s experience and leadership qualities will very much be needed against a physical Burnley side.
Predicted West Ham starting XI to face Burnley:
Roberto, Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Noble. Snodgrass, Anderson, Ajeti, Haller.
