Moyes brings his high-flying West Ham side to his former club Man United knowing defeat will see the Red Devils leapfrog them into fourth place following the disappointing 3-2 home defeat to Leeds last time out.
But Moyes and his boys will be hoping to to keep Man United at arm’s length with a positive result at Old Trafford.
West Ham were the better side in the reverse fixture but somehow lost 2-1 as Mark Noble missed that last gasp penalty to take a draw – which was the least the Hammers’s efforts deserved.
West Ham did not have to wait long for a measure of revenge when they beat Man United in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford three days later.
Moyes will be hoping for more of the same today especially with so much riding on this big clash when it comes to the top four battle.
The Scot is boosted by the return of Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma as West Ham’s media team posted a video showing the duo – and speculated injury doubt Michail Antonio – in full training on the eve of the game.
As a result, Moyes looks set to make one big change to the team which started the defeat to Leeds.
Predicted: David Moyes makes one big West Ham change for Man United as £33m man is dropped
Soucek has been sorely missed. And the big Czech will come back into the side with £33m man Nikola Vlasic dropped to the bench.
Vlasic has been much improved of late. But his performance against Leeds divided opinion among some West Ham fans.
Some felt he looked good, others expect and want more.
But the Croatian will drop to the bench with Soucek back alongside Declan Rice in the heart of West Ham’s midfield and Manuel Lanzini moving back to a more advanced role.
Zouma will likely be in the squad but despite Issa Diop’s awful display against Leeds, the Frenchman will likely have to wait until after the winter break before he starts a game.
Predicted West Ham starting XI to face Man United:
Fabianski, Coufal, Dawson, Diop, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Lanzini, Fornals, Bowen, Antonio.
