Paul Merson has made a prediction for the Premier League match between Chelsea and West Ham on Sunday.
The Hammers travel to west London to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 2 o’clock kick-off on Sunday afternoon.
West Ham and Chelsea have been in fairly poor form in the Premier League of late.
The Hammers have only won two out of our last five league games whilst the Blues only have three victories to their name throughout the same period.
Thomas Tuchel will be incredibly concerned by his side’s recent drop in form. They were recently dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid as well.
Meanwhile, David Moyes will be frustrated with the way in which his team have played in the league of late. Having said that, West Ham have been sensational in the Europa League. So we know that the players are more than capable of turning up and getting a result at Stamford Bridge.
Paul Merson predicts Chelsea vs West Ham
The well-renowned football pundit was writing his regular column for Sportskeeda and suggested that David Moyes will field a weakened team for this weekend’s clash with Chelsea:
“West Ham have a massive football match on Thursday night – probably their biggest game in the past several years. They have a great opportunity to make history here and aren’t getting into the Premier League top four anyway. Chelsea will be in trouble if they don’t sell the club soon. If no one puts money into the club, they won’t be able to buy new players next season. Chelsea’s going to have a very hard time next season if a deal isn’t done quickly. West Ham are not going to play their strongest team this weekend and that could play right into Chelsea’s hands. Chelsea have a good squad at their disposal and should be able to win this game.”
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 West Ham United
Whilst Moyes may decide to rest a couple of players on Sunday, he has always been a manager who picks the strongest side available to him for each and every game.
It is highly unlikely that the Scot will make wholesale changes for West Ham against Chelsea, in spite of what Merson says.
At the end of the day it’s still a huge London derby and the Hammers need all three points in order to maintain our challenge for the top six.
Moyes’s team-sheet on Sunday will be a highly anticipated one, that’s for sure.
