Paul Merson predicts three-goal West Ham vs Aston Villa 'upset'

Paul Merson has predicted the outcome of the West Ham vs Aston Villa clash at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Hammers welcome Aston Villa to the London Stadium for what is a huge game for both clubs.

West Ham have been in poor form of late, having taken just eight points from our last six Premier League games.

Villa, meanwhile, are absolutely flying. They’ve won their last three Premier League outings, scoring nine goals and conceding none.

Steven Gerrard has done a great job at Villa Park as David Moyes has done at the London Stadium.

The game between West Ham and Aston Villa tomorrow should be a lively encounter.

Villa haven’t beaten us since 2015. We’ve won four and drawn two of our last six meetings with the West Midlands outfit.

There have been 12 goals in the last three meetings between the two sides so it should be an entertaining clash in East London tomorrow.

The Hammers need to win in order to keep our hopes of a top six finish alive.

Meanwhile, Gerrard will be desperate for his team to make it four wins in a row in order to keep the pressure up on eighth placed Wolves.

Paul Merson spoke to Sportskeeda, and made his prediction for tomorrow’s West Ham vs Aston Villa clash:

“Aston Villa are playing really well at the moment. Coutinho’s hit the ground running in the Premier League, and he’s settled quicker than snow. He’s putting himself in the shop window in the transfer market. Coutinho hasn’t enjoyed his football for four years and now he’s playing with a smile on his face. If I was him, I’d sign for Aston Villa. This is a big game. Three weeks ago, you’d think this is a give-me game for West Ham. But Villa are in a real vein of form now, and they’ve done well under Steven Gerrard. West Ham will probably have one eye on their game against Sevilla, and I’m going to back Aston Villa to pull off a bit of an upset here.”

Prediction: West Ham United 1-2 Aston Villa

That would obviously be a disastrous result for West Ham.

In fairness though, it would be no surprise.

We will be without Jarrod Bowen once again and our midweek exertions in Seville will surely play a huge part in the game against Villa at the London Stadium tomorrow.

Having said that, we have done very well against Villa over the past few years. So let’s keep the faith.
