David Moyes gives brutally honest answer about one West Ham player’s lack of game time when quizzed on Divin Mubama.

When West Ham signed Danny Ings for £15m in January it screamed ‘panic buy’.

And in fairness the Hammers could be forgiven for panicking given their Premier League status was at risk.

Ings has struggled to fit into David Moyes’ style and system and has failed to impress when given the chance.

The latest of those came in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln last week where he spurned a host of golden opportunities against the League One outfit.

Moyes opted against pushing to sign a striker in the summer window despite selling Gianluca Scamacca.

The Scot declared that he saw Jarrod Bowen playing as a forward more often.

West Ham fans also hoped the failure to sign a forward would see more chances for young hot shot Divin Mubama.

But he was overlooked in favour of Ings at Lincoln.

West Ham fans relentlessly chanted Mubama’s name at Moyes that night with the Hammers deadlocked and fortunate not to be behind in the game.

When Mubama came on alongside Ings it instantly unsettled Lincoln and West Ham scored just minutes later.

So when Moyes confirmed in his pre-match press conference for the Europa League clash at Freiburg that Michail Antonio is out injured, thoughts turned to who would lead the line for West Ham in Germany.

And Moyes has given a brutally honest answer about one West Ham player’s lack of game time when quizzed on Mubama.

Speaking in his pre-match presser, Moyes said he likes Mubama but would not be playing him against Freiburg despite Antonio’s injury.

“Maybe this one I would (have an issue chucking Mubama into the side against Freiburg),” Moyes said.

“I think we’re playing a really good opponent. But we like Divin a lot, he’s 18 years old, he’s learning his trade and he’s coming along really nicely.

“We’ll have some thoughts about it. Divin we like but would I start him (against Freiburg)? Probably not.”
