Conor Coventry produced an excellent performance as the Republic of Ireland U21 team cruised to victory.
In the U21 Euro qualifiers, Republic of Ireland beat Sweden U21s 4-1 to stay top of their group. Coventry played his part, operating in midfield and showing the fans what he can do.
The West Ham teen has played two senior games for the Hammers already. He made his debut last season against Macclesfield Town in the EFL Cup – where Grady Diangana scored twice in the 8-0 win. Then, he got a small cameo against Newport County earlier this season.
Coventry is a holding midfield player – something that West Ham lack in the first-team. Aside from Declan Rice, West Ham are short in this department. Carlos Sanchez has not provided adequate cover or back-up in the defensive midfield role.
While Manuel Pellegrini scratches his head for options, Coventry reminded everyone of his talents during the international break. The 19-year-old has been in excellent form for the young Boys in Green and West Ham’s U23 team this season.
But West Ham face a battle to hold onto him. Unimpressed with West Ham’s new contract offer, Coventry could leave in January (as per The Guardian). Here are some West Ham fans discussing Coventry’s situation after his international masterclass.
Another very good performance from Conor Coventry tonight as Ireland U21’s smash Sweden 4-1 to stay at the top of their group. Need to get that boy under contract.

Coventry, Holland, Powell and Scully are great young players but MP doesn’t give them a chance.
