West Ham fans should be concerned about Mohammed Kudus as he returns to London Stadium from Ghana duty

Mohammed Kudus will be heading back to West Ham United iminently, after a disappointing week with Ghana.

West Ham signed Mohammed Kudus from Ajax for around £38 million back in the summer of 2023, and he has been sensational for us ever since.

Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol recently raved about Mohammed Kudus, describing the West Ham and Ghana ace as his toughest opponent.

That’s no surprise to me, the 24-year-old Hammer must be a total nightmare to play against.

Kudus has played 49 games in all competitions for West Ham, and has firmly established himself as one of our two best, most consistent and important players, alongside Jarrod Bowen.

The Ghana international has already racked up a super impressive 14 goals and seven assists for the East London outfit

Worryingly though, he recently hinted that his ambition is to play for a huge club chasing major honours.

The thought of him leaving the London Stadium really concerns me!

Let’s hope that’s not the case, and we manage to match his ambitions by finishing inside the European places.

Right now though, there is another big reason to be concerned about Kudus…

Mohammed Kudus heads back to West Ham after Ghana duty

The 24-year-old should be back with the Hammers within the next 24 hours.

That’s after he played two games for Ghana over the past four days against Angola in his home country’s capital – Accra, and Niger in Morocco.

It pains me to say that the former Ajax man was out on the pitch for every single second of both games.

I get that he’s only 24, but the modern day attacker relies on pace and explosiveness, and it only takes one overworked hamstring to ping for them to be ruled out for a month or so.

I’m sure that Kudus isn’t in the red-zone just yet, but he may well be heading that way – playing 180 minutes for his country in four days certainly hasn’t helped.

Now we have to keep our fingers crossed that he returns to the London Stadium in fine fettle physically.

Kudus being overused, hopefully he doesn’t break

Let’s be real here, there’s no way that Kudus should have played 180 minutes for Ghana over the course of those two matches.

I get that they were both AFCON qualifying games, but could he not have been given a slight rest in both matches, even just 10 minutes at the end?

It’s not just the minutes on the pitch, it’s the amount of time Kudus has spent in the air as well.

The flight from London to Ghana is just over six-and-a-half hours long. Then, Kudus had to fly from Accra to Morocco, which takes just under five hours.

It’s then around a four-and-a-half hour flight back to London from there.

For those of you who fly, you will know how you feel after just one long haul flight. Kudus will have taken three flights in a week, and played 180 minutes of intense football as well!

Mohammed Kudus is a vitally important player for West Ham, and Ghana. However, we pay his wages, and that should count for something in my opinion.
