Arthur Masuaku scored his first ever international goal at the weekend. Playing for DR Congo in a friendly against Kenya, Masuaku got on the scoresheet with a late goal.
It was a friendly encounter in preparation for the African Cup of Nations later this summer. And Masuaku staked a claim for a starting spot at the continental tournament.
The 25-year-old scored a free-kick towards the end of the game. With three minutes remaining and Kenya leading 1-0, Masuaku slotted a free-kick under the wall to equalise.
This was good preparation for the upcoming AFCON. Masuaku’s DR Congo are in Group A with Uganda and Zimbabwe, as well as hosts Egypt.
Arthur Masuaku at West Ham

Masuaku had an up-and-down season at West Ham. He was Manuel Pellegrini’s first-choice for the start of the season but his defensive work was heavily criticised.
After a string of error-strewn performances, Masuaku was dropped for Aaron Cresswell for the bulk of the season. But he returned to the starting line-up towards the end of the campaign.
Here are several tweets from West Ham fans discussing Masuaku’s maiden international goal.
