Sebastien Haller snubbed by France in favour of former West Ham striker target after Kylian Mbappe withdrawal

West Ham United star Sebastien Haller was snubbed again by France last night after Kylian Mbappe withdrew from the squad.

Haller has made no secret of his desire to earn a France call-up since joining West Ham for a club record £45million in the summer.

The 25-year-old has made an effortless start to life in the Premier League.

The Frenchman has scored four goals and provided three assists in seven games for the Hammers so far.

But it is his all-round game that has impressed fans and pundits the most.

Haller the new Hammers hero

The agile and powerful forward seems to have all the attributes to be a hit in the Premier League, and it is a case of so far, so good.

But he continues to be overlooked for the French side by Didier Deschamps.

Haller has never been capped by the senior French side, although he did impress at youth level, scoring 13 goals in 20 appearances for their under-21s.

And he was snubbed once again on Tuesday night when Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe withdrew from the France squad over fitness concerns.

Seb snubbed for former West Ham target

Ironically Deschamps elected instead to replace Mbappe with former West Ham striker target Alassane Plea (Get French Football News).

“Kylian Mbappe pulls out of the French national team squad owing to fitness concerns – replaced by Alassane Plea (Gladbach),” GFFN reported last night.

The Hammers bid £27million for the then Nice forward back in January 2018 (Sky Sports).

Plea ended up moving to Borussia Monchengladbach where he has scored 16 goals in 41 games.

Haller has scored more goals in the last four seasons than Plea has in his entire career so far.

It is only Plea’s second cap.

Another slap in the face from Deschamps

And it will come as a big slap in the face to West Ham’s new goalscoring hero.

Haller has his heart set on a place at Euro 2020. Unfortunately for him, though, Deschamps has previous.

He persistently ignored calls for Dimitri Payet to be selected for France. That was despite the scintillating start he made to his West Ham career.

After months of public pressure, both in England and France – coupled with Payet’s supreme form – Deschamps finally caved and called up the playmaker.

West Ham fans can only hope the same will happen with Haller as it will benefit them and the player.
