West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is in action for Poland tonight. And Marko Arnautovic lies in wait for Austria. In the Euro 2020 qualifier, Fabianski will come face-to-face with the ex-West Ham striker on international duty.
Arnautovic left West Ham in controversial fashion in the summer. The 30-year-old pushed for a move last January, failed to secure his transfer, signed a new contract, downed tools for a while and then left at the first opportunity in the summer.
The Austrian striker is a hugely unpopular figure at West Ham despite his goalscoring record for the Hammers. Us West Ham fans do not like to be disrespected in this manner. That’s why Fabianski will get the full support of East London tonight.
West Ham cheer on Fabianski but Arnautovic hits form
West Ham fans will be desperate for Fabianski to keep a clean sheet and shut out Arnautovic. But going into this game, form suggests that it could be a challenging evening for last season’s Hammer of the Year.
Poland were shocked on Friday night when Slovenia beat them 2-0. Meanwhile, on the same night, Arnautovic scored twice to guide Austria to a 6-0 victory over Latvia. Poland still top Group G after five games but Austria can leapfrog them with a win tonight.
Fabianski should get the nod ahead of ex-Arsenal stopper Wojciech Szczesny. He started against Slovenia and has been the in-form goalkeeper. But Poland cannot afford to slip up again and Fabianski might have a busy evening if the defence continues to let him down.
