West Ham United looked to have played a blinder with the cunning handling of Manuel Lanzini’s injury situation.
West Ham take on Crystal Palace on Saturday night knowing victory could push the club back up to third in the Premier League table.
Manuel Pellegrini will have star playmaker Lanzini back in his starting XI.
The Argentine missed the victory over Manchester United through injury.
Lanzini the quick healer
But he returned to the side from the bench at Bournemouth last time out – a full three weeks ahead of the supposed schedule.
It made a refreshing change for West Ham to have some positive injury news.
And a little digging suggests there may be more to the situation than first meets the eye.
‘Convenient’ timing over injury
Indeed have the Hammers played a blinder to ensure their star did not risk a hat-trick of injures while on international duty.
The South Americans take on Germany and Ecuador in the international break but Lanzini will not be joining up with Lionel Scaloni’s squad.
That’s because he was ruled out for three-four weeks at the time the Argentina squad selection was made for the October games.
That has been described by fellow Hammers site Claret & Hugh – which claims to have a top level source inside the club – as ‘a tad convenient’.
Nothing underhanded, just sensible
West Ham fans take great pride in seeing their players on the international stage.
And there is nothing to suggest West Ham have stopped Lanzini meeting up with his national side.
But given the fact he has picked up two injures – one which kept him out most of last season – while away with Argentina, supporters will be more than relieved that he will be getting plenty of rest once the Palace game is out of the way.
