West Ham United star Declan Rice has clearly made a big impression on England captain Harry Kane.

In fact Tottenham Hotspur hero Kane has been so effusive in his praise for the Hammers midfielder that any club loyalty to Eric Dier has been put to one side.

Rice is set to make his England debut in the next week after his first call-up (The Mirror).

Rice caused a stir when he elected to switch allegiance to the Three Lions from Ireland.

Rolls Royce Rice gets England reward

The 20-year-old did not let the reaction affect his form for West Ham. And he has been rewarded by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, who has been building a young, hungry England side.

The call-up saw many fans and pundits predict the beginning of the end for rival Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielders Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson.

Both Dier and Henderson have failed to establish themselves in the defensive midfield position.

Rice has been the best player under 21 in that position in Europe’s top five leagues this season, read full story here.

Ruthless Kane backs Rice to make Dier’s position his own

And ruthless Harry Kane has been gushing in his praise of Rice this week tipping him to make the position his own for years to come.

“I spoke to him yesterday,” Kane told the press ahead of Friday’s game against the Czech Republic as reported by the likes of Football London.

“The thing I like most about him is as a defensive midfielder he looks to play forward as quick as possible. It’s easy to play side to side and backwards and their completion rate looks good. Declan’s first thought is to look forward.

“On the defensive side he has a centre-back’s instinct to drop in… I’m a big fan of him, I like the way he plays. I spoke to him about (being a centre back) and he enjoys where he is now. In football nowadays you have to be versatile.

‘I think he’ll stay there for most of his career’

“It’s great to have someone who can play in different positions.

“I think he prefers to play as a defensive midfielder… from my point of view I think he’ll stay there for most of his career.”

Kane’s refreshing honesty is admirable given his Spurs teammate Dier is vying for the same position.

It shows a single-minded approach to making England successful again.

Perhaps it is about time the striker was given more credit by opposing fans up and down the country.
